Funding and Fees - Poland

In Poland full-time education at state institutions of higher education is free. It is also free for foreigners who commence studies in Poland at state universities on terms applicable to Polish citizens, that is to say they have an EU passport or a Polish residency permit. All other foreigners are required to pay tuition fees of no less than a PLN equivalent of:

  • €2000 per year for professional higher study, master’s and postgraduate master’s courses;
  • €3000 per year for doctoral, postgraduate and specialist courses and scientific, artistic, specialist and habilitation internships;
  • €3000 per year for vocational courses and apprenticeships;
  • €2000 per year for a language course, including a course preparing for study in Polish.

In justified cases the Rector of the university may, at the student’s request, reduce the tuition fee or waive it altogether.
The Ministry of Science and Higher Education sets from time to time a quota of scholarships for persons undergoing education in Poland under international agreements or under decision of the minister responsible for higher education. Foreign students’ scholarship applications falling within the quota are transmitted by Polish consular/diplomatic missions to the Bureau for Academic Recognition and International Exchange. From there, the applications are reviewed by the Bureau’s Section for Recruitment and Education of Foreigners in Poland. The final decision is taken by the Minister of Science and Higher Education.
If you are interested in governmental scholarship you should contact the Ministry of Education and Science (or its equivalent) in your home country. They will provide you with further information and upon your selection they will send us all the necessary papers.

Scholarships under inter-school agreements

Some Polish and foreign higher education institutions have agreements on temporary exchange of students and academic and research staff. In each case the HEIs involved agree the rules for granting scholarships. A foreign student seeking a scholarship in Poland must meet specific inter-school exchange requirements.
Some universities have their own scholarship programmes.
