This website is dedicated to making it easier for Australians to embark on postgraduate study in Europe.

As well as providing a host of links to relevant websites in Europe and Australia ASiE also undertakes research and consultation with the EU Commission, European governments and a great number of universities and foundations. The aim is to produce and update as much as possible all information concerning grants and scholarships available to Australian students seeking to pursue doctoral studies in Europe.

Founded in 1845 and set on 44 acres of grounds the university has approximately 2,500 students enrolled in postgraduate degrees. It has a wide variety of postgraduate courses and consistently receives amongst the highest income for research in Ireland. This university is one of the four universities making up the National University of Ireland

Dublin - University College Dublin - (Ollscoil na hÉireann, Baile Atha Cliath)

This Ireland’s largest university with approximately 22,000 students; around 10% coming from overseas. Over 50 countries are represented in the international student population. Its main campus is situated at Belfield on 132 hectares and includes student residences. UCD has a strong profile in research and has approximately 6,000 students enrolled in postgraduate degrees. The university is structured around 5 colleges comprising 35 schools. It also has 11 research institutes and centres. This university is one of the four universities making up the National University of Ireland.

Trinity College, Dublin

Founded in 1592, Trinity is the oldest university in Ireland. It is located in the centre of Dublin and its main library is one of the largest in Europe. It is the top Irish university for research and had 1600 students enrolled in research degrees in 2007. Over 4,000 students at Trinity, out of total enrolment of around 16,000, are engaged in some form of postgraduate study.

Dublin City University

A new university that was originally set up as a with an emphasis on training in the areas of business, science and electronics, computer technology, communications and languages. It was given university status in 1989 and is located on 85 acres. It has a fast growing postgrad population and a wide variety of taught courses.

Galway - National University of Ireland, Galway - (Ollscoil na hÉireann, Gaillimh)

Arts, science, commerce, engineering, celtic studies, medicine & health studies and law. Founded in 1845 as Queen's College, Galway. Founded in 1845 the university has experienced a growth in infrastructure and students since the 1960s. It has a total of 15,000 students of whom around 25% are postgraduates. This university is one of the four universities making up the National University of Ireland

University of Limerick
Situated on 200 acres the university was originally the National Institute for Higher Education established in 1972. In 1989 it was granted university status. It has six colleges comprising both departments and research centres. It is Ireland’s leading university in industry led research.

National University of Ireland, Maynooth - (Ollscoil na hÉireann, Má Nuad)

One of the four constituent universities in Ireland it is situated 25 km west of Dublin in Ireland’s only university town. It has over 8,000 students of whom around 20% are postgraduates. It has 26 academic departments in 3 faculties, as well as three independent research institutes. It is currently undergoing expansion in its research areas and is keen to attract talented postgraduates.

Federal university with four Constituent Universities, five Recognised Colleges. Established by charter in 1908. The four universities are University College, Cork, University College, Dublin, Maynooth and Galway. The five colleges are The Royal College of Surgeons, The National College of Art and Design, Shannon College of Hotel Management, Institute of Public Administration, Milltown Institute.
