Visa and Entry Requirements

In order to study in Finland you will need a residents permit, which effectively fulfils your visa requirement and is a key to accessing all the other services you will need. The visa/permit needs to be obtained before you arrive in Finland and you should apply for it here in Australia. To apply for the permit you will need an acceptance letter from the university or tertiary institution and note you will also need to show you can meet your living expenses in Finland.  The visa/permit will cover you for the duration of your study in Finland.

When you arrive

Once your arrive you should contact the foreign student adviser at your institution and the Finnish Directorate of Immigration in order to transform the visa issued in Australia into a residence permit.

Working in Finland

A residence permit issued for study does permit you to work in Finland. You can work for up to 25 hours a week during term time and during the Christmas and summer holidays there are no restrictions on working hours.
