Australians - Study in Europe

This website is dedicated to making it easier for Australians to embark on postgraduate study in Europe.

As well as providing a host of links to relevant websites in Europe and Australia ASiE also undertakes research and consultation with the EU Commission, European governments and a great number of universities and foundations. The aim is to produce and update as much as possible all information concerning grants and scholarships available to Australian students seeking to pursue doctoral studies in Europe.

Accomodation in The Czech Republic

It is recommended that postgraduate students planning on studying in the Czech Republic try to arrange accommodation through the University at which they will study. Unlike in Australia where the real estate rental market is quite closely monitored and there are formal avenues of complaint and recourse in the case of dispute, these opportunities may not exist in the Czech Republic.

At Palacky University the University provides accommodation in the University halls of residence (€80–€110 /month). All resident buildings contain recreation areas, TV, internet, study rooms and cooking facilities. Lunch or dinner in the student cafeteria cost about €1. In Olomouc it is easy to rent a flat (two rooms and a kitchen) for about €260–€300/month.

Please be aware that the sections concerning accommodation for most Czech universities are in Czech and that students wishing for further information may have to contact the individual institutions for accommodation information in English. There is further information on this website in the profiles of the major Czech universities.

Prague Real Estate has listings of properties in the Prague area to rent. One bedroom apartments in the centre of Prague vary dramatically in price: from CZK 70 000 to 14 000 monthly (approx. AUD 4700 to 1100).
